‘Saving Sight: The Mission Continues’ represents an expansion of the highly successful partnership between Prova Education and the National Eye Institute of the National Institutes of Health with an in-depth focus on retinal disease.
Fort Washington, PA | April 28, 2022
Prova Education announced today that its highly successful curriculum on early diagnosis, referral and treatment of diabetic retinopathy has renewed with additional expert faculty and an array of new educational offerings.
“Saving Sight: The Mission Continues” is a collaboration among Prova Education, the National Eye Institute (NEI) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and the National Eye Health Education Program (NEHEP). The goal is to build on the foundation created in 2019 and provide clinicians with new educational pathways, tools, and resources to aid in the mission of saving sight in patients with diabetes who are at increased risk of blindness.
New to the curriculum are resources clinicians can share with patients as well as patient communication strategies. Example programs include:
Seeing a Way Forward in Diabetic Retinopathy
Two patients conversing to overcome fear of injections
Addressing Diabetic Retinopathy: A Way Forward
What to expect with intravitreal injections
A Lifetime of Vision
Why eye exams matter
“We don’t need to see patients go blind from diabetic retinopathy anymore,” said Charles Wykoff, MD, PhD, Director of the Retina Consultants of Houston and Eye Health Academy Steering Committee Member. “It is time to be hopeful for patients and make sure we’re treating them early in the disease course.”
The collaboration team includes leading experts in eye health representing academia, government, and private practice. The curriculum is designed to:
- Improve the knowledge, awareness, competencies, and decision-making patterns of healthcare professionals relative to the diagnosis and management of diabetic retinopathy
- Increase the identification of patients with moderate-to-severe diabetic retinopathy, improving referral rates to specialized care, and matching patients to the most appropriate therapy

The initiative is funded through an educational grant from Regeneron Pharmaceuticals.
